A new World Record in the 100-meter breaststroke SB2 swimming, with a time of 02:12.64 and three gold medals, was added to the impressive, long-standing athletic career of Paralympic gold medalist Giannis Kostakis at the recent Open Swimming Tournament at the Municipal Swimming Pool of Naoussa.
As Giannis Kostakis states, “My performances are not accidental. My preparation began many months ago with daily training in the pool. The program is difficult and strenuous, so I can get better times in my events, with a view to the World Championships in Canada in August.”
Looking back on difficult moments and his serious injury in the summer of 2011 at the European Championships in Berlin, Giannis Kostakis remembers: “After the accident, many said that my athletic career was over. Only my family and the people at the ANAPLASI Medical Rehabilitation Center believed in me and helped me. My immediate rehabilitation at the ANAPLASI Inpatient Department for this particularly serious injury was the first step. A properly organized training program from my coach, Panagiotis Paipetis, followed, in combination with coordinated, almost daily rehabilitation therapy at ANAPLASI. The support of ANAPLASI is valuable and essential for comprehensive training with different exercises and strength training.”
And our Paralympic champion concludes: “I would like to extend a big thank you to ANAPLASI and its President Christos Georgopoulos: Thank you for being by my side in good times and bad and in every athletic success of mine maintaining my impeccable physical condition, which results in such outstanding performances and setting of new records!”
