What is dysphagia?
Dysphagia refers to an abnormality in the act of swallowing, that is, the transport of food and liquids from the lips to the stomach. It is a problem that can occur in both adults and children.
Dysphagia, as a result of illness or trauma, can slow down or reduce the effectiveness of a therapeutic rehabilitation program, affecting not only the health of the patient, but also their life at risk.
Which disorders can cause dysphagia?
Disorders of swallowing (dysphagia) are caused by:
- Diseases of the central nervous system
- Neuromuscular Diseases
- Head and Neck Diseases.
